Pop idols Zhang Jie and Zeng Yike will sing the theme songs of the animated film Seer, officials announced yesterday at the 14th Shanghai International Film Festival press conference.
Zhang and Zeng rose to fame on Hunan Satellite TV\'s Happy Boy and Happy Girl singing contests.
"I am a big fan of animated series or films," said Zhang. "It has long been my dream to sing for animation."
The film was inspired by a popular domestic online virtual community of the same name for children and young teenagers. The community has more than 100 million registered users from 7 to 14 years old.
The film will focus on the space adventures of a group of Seer-robots who try to find the mythological Phoenix bird as well as new energy sources to protect Earth. The smart, cute robots are confronted on their journey by pirates and fairies.
Producer Mr. Cartoon Pictures\' spokesman Chen Yingjie said Seer will be the first Chinese animated movie that features close interaction with Netizens.
The film\'s storyline provides answers to science questions considered by the community and a series of film by-products will be developed.
Seer is scheduled for release on July 28. Although expected to compete with Hollywood blockbusters Transformers: Dark of the Moon and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, distributor Ge Shanxian is optimistic about its box office performance because of its appealing story and large fan base.
