Two newly restored classic Chinese films - Crow and Sparrow and Three Women will be shown during the 16th Shanghai International Film Festival.
On June 19th, Three Women will have a special screening at the Grand Cinema, where the decoration, installations and film posters of the 1930s and 1940s Shanghai can evoke a nostalgia for the passing time.
The screening will also gather a lot of film celebrities, including famous performing artist Qin Yi."The film vividly depicts the life style and detailed scenes of the city in the 1940s," said Qin. "It also shows the devotion old Chinese film artists have made to the Chinese cinema."
The film restoration and screening program was initiated and debuted at last year\'s film fest and received wide acclaims. Besides the two newly restored pictures, the three restored Chinese films, including Crossroads, The Spring River Flows East and Eight Thousand Li of Clouds and Moon which were presented last year will be shown again.
Crow and Sparrow is a masterpiece of Zheng Junli, starring renowned Chinese actors Zhao Dan, Sun Daolin and Huang Zongying. Chen Liting, director of Three Women is now 103 years old. The heartwarming film is about the independence and charm of Chinese women.
Technicians from the prestigious Laser S. Films have been involved in the restoration project of the two movies. The classic productions have undergone detailed repairs on image sequences, color and soundtrack.
Since the ticket sales for the film festival began on June 8th, tickets for some screenings of the restored classic movies have been sold out. These movie are particularly popular among the elderly and middle-aged audiences.
According to Fu Wenxia, an official from the festival\'s organizing committee, the program is not only a social responsibility the festival feels for the Chinese films, but also a chance for people from all over the world to know about the brilliant culture of Chinese movies.
