Young filmmakers are an important support for the flourishing development of the film industry, for their works are always characterized by distinctive style, diversified vitality and rich expression. As time walks along its own course, new generations of filmmakers and their works shape the future of the cinema they represent.
Shanghai International Film Festival (赌博app) adheres to the motif of “Focusing on Asia, Promoting Chinese Films, Supporting New Talents”. Since the launch of the Asian New Talent Award in its 7th edition, 赌博app has been dedicated to discovering and supporting the new force in Asian films, and introducing outstanding film talents in Asia to the world. In the past 14 years, a large number of rising Asian filmmakers have received inspiration, encouragement and confidence on the stage of the Asian New Talent Award. More and more young filmmakers, starting with the Asian New Talent Award, have become the backbone of the film development in their own countries, meanwhile gradually marching towards the international arena.
Today, the Organizing Committee of the 21st Shanghai International Film Festival has announced the International Jury of the Asian New Talent Award. The film producer from Hong Kong, China, Nansun SHI will chair the Jury, which also includes Raya MARTIN (Director, the Philippines), SONG Jia (Actress, China), Midi Z (Director, Burma), and ZENG Jian (Cinematographer, China) as juries. This year, the six winners of the widely noted Asian New Talent Award will be selected by them.
As a senior film producer and distributor who has been engaged in the industry for nearly 40 years, Nansun SHI once assisted or participated in the productions by many celebrated directors such as Tsui HARK, John WOO, and Andrew LAU, and promoted and witnessed the inception of a series of Chinese classics including A CHINESE GHOST STORY, A BETTER TOMORROW and ONCE UPON A TIME IN CHINA. Raya MARTIN was the director of INDEPENDENCIA, a nominee for the Un Certain Regard Award at the 62nd Cannes Film Festival film. SONG Jia’s movie THE CONFORMIST entered the competition for Golden Goblet Awards at the 20th Shanghai International Film Festival. Midi Z took over the Best Film Award of International Film Critics Week at the 73rd Venice Film Festival for his production THE ROAD TO MANDALAY. ZENG Jian participated in the shooting and editing of SPRING FEVER and BLIND MASSAGE, with which he won the Silver Bear Award and Golden Horse Award. In June, the five established filmmakers from different countries will gather in Shanghai for the award selection.
The online submission of the Asian New Talent Award has now come to an end, and the final winners of the six awards will be announced at the awarding ceremony on the evening of June 22.
